Plateau United emerge 2017 NFPL champions

The Peace Boys welcome the reigning league champions to Jos, in a crucial tie that would likely decide who wears the Nigerian topflight crown.

Anthony Obaseki, El-Kanemi Warriors' Media Officer, while reacting to the victory said the result was delightful as it helped them to finish with 56 points from 38 matches.

They definitely need a win, irrespective of what happens in the game involving second-placed MFM to lay their hands on a first ever NPFL title.

Kpakor, who won the now defunct CAF Cup Winners' Cup with BCC Lions in 1990, posited that playing at home will give Plateau the advantage. We are here for serious business and we won't mind standing in the way of Plateau United and the league title.

The Jos team needed the win so as to keep off the trailing MFM who are leading by only one point and any slip would have gifted the Olukoya Boys the trophy. But the side is unarguably the standout team of the season. If you ask many coaches about their salaries you would find out that they are owing them.

In fact, the two clubs were not near the top three in the 2015/2016 season - Plateau finished 12th while MFM battled against relegation in their first season in the NPFL after a bright start. Plateau captain, Elisha Golbe, said they were focused on the task ahead. "Remember we won it in the last day of the campaign", he added.

"So until the proper things are done, we should not expect anything from both Plateau and MFM". Click any of these buttons below!
