Officer-involved shooting at Miami airport pre-Irma

September 08-A man was shot by Miami-Dade County police at Miami International Airport late Thursday, CBS4 reported.

Zabaleta said the officer shot the man after a confrontation ensued.

At least one shot was sacked just before 9 Concourse J, which houses global flights.

"One of the sergeants that responded observed a gentleman on the tarmac", Perez said.

The man was armed with a knife, Local 10 News investigative reporter Jeff Weinsier reported.

The suspect then attempted to exit the room and get into the terminal through the ceiling, Perez said.

"We do not believe this is related to a terrorist incident at all but we are not ruling that out because it is early", Perez said.

Airport officials said at least one shot was sacked in Terminal J but that the "situation is under control". Other flights were not delayed. "Everything is under control now and there's no threat".

According to Twitter user @ShawnWoodford, Concourse J was evacuated and police were seen surrounding an airplane at Gate J7 on the tarmac.

The shooting created commotion at a place that already has been hectic because of Hurricane Irma. However, on Friday afternoon there were nearly 100 flights canceled ahead of the storm, according to The Miami Herald.
