Modi govt has changed the scale of thinking: Amit Shah

Shah, while addressing a FICCI meet here in the national capital, said the dip in GDP to 5.7 per cent in this quarter is due to "some technical reasons". Our sources in FICCI revealed that the meeting could take place after the strong initiative taken by Sanjay Baru, former media advisor to Dr Manmohan Singh when the later was Prime Minister of India.

Shah said the National Democratic Alliance government had inherited the large percentage of banks' non-performing assets from the Congress dispensation. "This shows that our economy is growing, and our transparency is also growing, but for this, some of the difficulties have to be faced right now", the BJP president said.

BJP has also cried foul over the authorities denying use of Netaji Indoor Stadium for Shah's programme on the plea that the facility was booked.

On Wednesday, Shah would hold a press conference at the Press Club ahead of his meeting with members of the Merchants Chamber of Commerce at a five star hotel in central Kolkata.

"We are looking to provide a stable policy for 30 years. I doubt that the amount has gone into the hands of corrupt elements in the government and the party", he said, issuing a cautionary that none indulging in corrupt practice can escape if BJP assumes office in Odisha in 2019.

"After coming to power, Modi government has formed policies that tries to achieve long terms gains, instead of short term achievements", Shah said. Shah said there was enormous potential for investments in Africa.

Shah also said that political stability is necessary for economic and industrial development.

The Narendra Modi government does not believe in taking such decisions which "look good to people", but believes in taking decisions which are "good for people". "The election manifestoes released by BJD and BJP in 2014 election and steps taken by the State Government and the Centre to fulfil the promises should be compared and this should also be a part of the open debate", he said. The move, he said, has unnerved black money generators and increased the tax base, which will go on to increase the size of the formal economy.
