Man trashes store after denied phone, beer

Stores are not allowed to sell liquor after 2 a.m.

Santa Ana police on Tuesday released surveillance video in their search for a man who assaulted a clerk and trashed a 7-Eleven in Santa Ana after being denied both the use of the clerk's cellphone and an after-hours purchase of beer. California law prohibits alcohol sales between 2 and 6 a.m.

The short-fused suspect walked into the 7-Eleven on S. Bristol Street in Santa Ana after 2 a.m. on August 25 and first started badgering a female staffer, police said.

The vandalism was estimated to be about $2,000, police said.

Police hope that the video's release will bring forth any information related to the assailant's identity and the incident that occurred last month.

A man went bananas, literally, when a 7-Eleven clerk refuses to sell him beer.

When the clerks refused, the suspect knocked over displays on the counter, the video shows. Anthony Bertagna said. "The rest you see is the result of his tantrum". Investigators say the man caused about $2,000 in damage before running off.

Police say the suspect then assaulted the clerk and trashed the store, pushing many items off the counter and breaking several of the store's front windows.
