Link Aadhar with SIM by Feb 2018; else face deactivation

The government will move ahead with linking Aadhaar with all mobile SIM cards, as per the Supreme Court order of February 2017.

The government had announced that all mobile subscribers, including those having pre-paid SIM cards, to have their phone number linked to Aadhaar without fail. The decision was taken by a bench comprising of former Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice N V Ramana said the verification of existing pre-paid mobile users, running into crores, be done within one year. Once done you will receive an one-time-password (OTP) on your registered mobile number.

Informed sources told IANS that the Aadhaar biometrics can not be stored by mobile operators and so they will not be able to access the consumer's data.

The licensee shall verfiy the code from the subscribe so as to confirm that the SIM card of mobile connection is physically available with the subscriber. "If a fraudster knows your Aadhaar number, name and other details, then he can link a mobile number to your Aadhaar...and if he commits a crime, police will reach your home".

Visit your nearest Aadhar centre to make the Aadhar update/correction Form or download it from the UIDAI website, follow these steps to do on offline.

The OPT will be sent to your existing mobile number, and after submitting it you'll be redirected to a new page, where you can update the desired details. Telecom companies had been instructed in March to start the process of linking Aadhaar card with phone numbers.

You will have given an acknowledgement slip, after verifying the biometrics. Fill the form correctly submit it to the connected person at the centre and mention on the application that only mobile number has not have updated.

- Along with form and documents submission, your biometrics will be verified at the enrolment centre along with thumb impression. To your current number, this is because the OTP to authenticate the update would have sent to your existing number.

You will find an option under the Aadhaar Update tab that will redirect the user to the Aadhar Self-Service portal. Now enter your new mobile number that you want to update in the database and submit. After this latest order, those SIM cards that have not been linked with the Aadhaar cards will be deactivated.
