Gas prices down 3 cents per gallon in RI, Mass.

That's still a nickel higher than the national average and 54 cents higher per gallon than the in-state price one year ago. "Gas prices in the southeastern US should drop another 5-10 cents this week".

The current national average is $2.58 per gallon, a drop of five cents in the last week and the cheapest price in 16 days, yet 23 cents higher than one month ago and 37 cents higher than one year ago.

"If it weren't for the recent hurricanes, gas prices would be about 25 cents lower", AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said.

Ann Arbor is also down 6.9 cents to $2.46 per gallon; Flint down 12.4 cents to $2.35 per gallon and Toledo down 9.1 cents to $2.29 per gallon. But Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy, said gas prices this fall should continue to decline as refineries replenish inventories and deliveries get back to normal across the Southeast. ". It could take a few weeks before they reach equilibrium".

Gas prices in Florida averaged $2.67 Sunday. "Consumers may not be impressed with the speed at which prices are dropping, but they should feel confident that they will see lower prices moving into the fall".

Gas prices in northern New England are coming down in northern New England, although it may still be some time before drivers see pre-hurricane prices. But for those motorists in those states- Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky- prices may temporarily bounce back up in the next day or two as stations reset their prices.

The most expensive gas price averages in Florida are in West Palm Beach-Boca Raton ($2.76), Miami ($2.73) and Fort Lauderdale ($2.71).
