Entercom Debuts 'I'm Listening' Mental Health Campaign

One suicide affects 115 people. Over the past seven years, suicide has never been listed among the top 10 killers of Taiwanese people, according to Lee.

Nevada is fifth in the nation tied with Colorado for suicide deaths. Vermont depends on data about suicide from limited data sources. Now it's time to deepen our knowledge and learn what to do if you're concerned about yourself or a loved one. For every suicide, there are 25 attempts.

Misconception: Suicide attempts are really just about people feeling sad and hopeless.

We encourage everyone to take a minute to speak with someone who may be struggling and actually listen to what they say. The most common method of suicide involved firearms, followed by hanging and drug overdoses.

Misconception: If a person wants to kill themselves, they will find a way. That courageous act of opening up about mental health challenges has helped to shape the culture.

Misconception: A suicide attempt is typically triggered by a stressful life event. Suicide is a health concern that needs to be addressed. "A caring, compassionate person at a hard time can help turn things around", notes CASP.

Misconception: There's not much you can do for someone who is truly suicidal.

"It's Only Words" will reflect on the use of language in social and mainstream media when discussing or reporting issues of suicide, self harm and mental health. The statistics are from Nevada Coalition for Suicide Prevention. Of those, 53.6 percent said they would be willing to talk about suicidal thoughts with family and friends, while 34.5 percent said they would change the subject should the topic arise during conversation. "Their deaths leave countless family and friends bereaved and their communities impacted", states a posting on the Canadian Association of Suicide Prevention website (suicideprevention.ca).
