De Bruyne flattered by Guardiola praise

De Bruyne flattered by Guardiola praise

This was Feyenoord's first return to the Champions League in 15 years and rapidly turned into one to forget.

A year ago on Wednesday Guardiola said "Why not?' to the question of whether City could win the elite European crown and insisted there was no reason why English sides had been failing".

Stones' goal came from a cross into the box from David Silva, with the towering defender heading the ball through the legs of Feyenoord's Tonny Vilhena. His two goals were so important.

This was City's seventh straight crack at the Champions League.

Feyenoord's qualifying chances look pretty bleak at the moment and, if they have to give themselves any chance of reaching the round of 16, they must put up proud displays at home.

Both Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane scored a brace, with the other goal coming from Sergio Aguero.

"I'm going with the flow of the team".

Defender Ridgeciano Haps and forward Nicolai Jorgensen were injured and the team Feyenoord will be without them.

They could have got a lifeline on 21 minutes through Michiel Kramer, but Stones produced a crucial block to deflect his shot into the side netting.

"John, you've played in the Champions League how many times? 10?" Walker and Mendy are expected to bomb up and down the pitch as wing backs.

Hard-working midfielders Bernardo Silva and Kevin de Bruyne punched holes in the Feyenoord defence on a stormy evening at a packed De Kuip.

"We'll take things game by game and see where it takes us".

But the England worldwide looked every inch the flawless replacement for crocked captain Vincent Kompany as he headed his team in front with less than two minutes on the board.

Much will depend on the midfield battle between Kevin de Bruyne and El Ahmadi.

As Manchester City prepare to launch their 2017-18 assault on the Champions League, manager Pep Guardiola will be well aware of the pressure facing him to make serious advances towards the oft-stated designs of the club's ambitious owners.

His display definitely warrants a hundred-word heap of praise as there is huge expectation from him, and Guardiola will hope that he can pull off performances of similar nature in the coming weeks.
