Christian Hackenberg isn't even the Jets' backup

Coach Todd Bowles said Bryce Petty will be the Jets' No. 2 quarterback "for the foreseeable future". Now that he's healthy, Petty is locked in as Josh McCown's backup. That means second-year pro Christian Hackenberg, he of zero regular season action in his career, is the No. 3 quarterback.

Something must have changed during practice throughout the week, as Petty has earned the right to be Gang Green's No. 2 quarterback this time around. Petty, who performed better than Hackenberg in the preseason, suffered a knee injury in the third preseason game.

The rest of the inactives are: LB Bruce Carter, S Rontez Miles, CB Derrick Jones, C Jonotthan Harrison, TE Eric Tomlinson and TE Jordan Leggett. Will Tye will get the start, while the newly-acquired Neal Sterling will serve as Tye's backup.

Wide receiver Jeremy Kerley is active for the game after being inactive last week.
