What you can buy during Oklahoma's tax-free weekend

The law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks that sell for less than $100 from sales and use taxes. Click on each state's name for more complete information.

Jefferson County will not charge its 1.625 percent sales tax, and Arnold, Kimmswick, Herculaneum and Hillsboro won't collect sales tax on back-to-school items during the holiday.

Virtually all school supplies qualify for exemptions, provided they are less than $100.

Lou Nagle, manager at the Dollar General store on Lake Avenue in Ashtabula, said they are prepared for an increase in back-to-school shoppers by putting out "a couple more boxes" of supplies on the shelves.

The annual weekend has become for back-to-school shopping what Black Friday is to Christmas shopping by giving people an extra incentive to come out and shop - a win for consumers and businesses alike.

Those who stop by Office Depot will find items priced as low as a penny and receive special incentives for recycling old school supplies such as binders.
