Tom Cruise's injury delays Mission: Impossible 6 filming

Tom Cruise's injury delays Mission: Impossible 6 filming

Following the revelation of Tom Cruise's on-set injury earlier this week, Variety reports that the upcoming Mission: Impossible 6 could have extensive production delays ranging from six weeks to three months to allow the star to recover.

During the stunt, which was caught on a video released by TMZ, Cruise jumped from rigging set up on the top of one building onto the rooftop of another. Cruise is known for doing a bunch of his stunt work himself, and it seems to have bitten him in the ankle this time out.

"Mission: Impossible 6" is scheduled to be released in July 2018.

"Tom wants to thank you all for your concern and support and can't wait to share the film with everyone next summer", the statement continued.

McQuarrie also went on to claim that Cruise is a very talented actor and stunt performer and that he knows how much an injury can stall the production of the movie.

"Mission: Impossible 6" star Tom Cruise barely made it out unscathed during a botched stunt scene.

Despite the major setback, Paramount and other sources have indicated that the delay won't affect the film's planned July 27th, 2018 release date. In the footage, Cruise can be seen limping away, unsteady on his feet.

Cruise has a nasty habit of nearly killing himself on set, but McQuarrie says that this isn't a sign that the 55-year-old action star should slow down anytime soon. Furthermore, that filming is likely to be put on hold for four months. For Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol, the actor scaled the outside of Dubai's Burj Khalifa, now the world's tallest building; For 2015's Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, meanwhile, he was attached to the exterior of an Airbus 400 as it took off.

In Mission: Impossible 6 crews stars opposite returning stars Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Michelle Monaghan, Alec Baldwin and Sean Harris, as well as newcomers Henry Cavill and Angela Bassett.
