Police raid Manchester hotel after traffic incident involving child

A CHILD has died in a road collision outside a hotel near Old Trafford in Manchester tonight - sparking a massive emergency response.

Armed officers arrived at the hotel as they were closest to the scene when the alarm was raised, but police confirmed it was not a firearms incident.

Armed police attended the incident because they were in the area at the time, they said.

The police operation has been underway in the Ibis Budget Hotel in Salford Quays in Greater Manchester.

One witness to the incident said: "All I know is someone, reportedly a young child, was hit at least twice by a vehicle in the auto park".

Greater Manchester Police said a young boy has died after being hit by a vehicle near the hotel. Around 15 police cars and an ambulance lined the sidewalk. Following the news of a child's death, the footage sparked a debate on Twitter about whether the person who first posted it online should take it down. A suicide bomber detonated an IED minutes after American pop star Ariana Grande's performance ended, as people rushed to the exits.
