Newcastle United 0-0 Tottenham

Newcastle United marked their return to the Premier League with a 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur, and the game swung on a moment just after half-time. I've had a few talks with the gaffer in the past [about his temperament].

Alli and Ben Davies netted against Benitez's 10-man team after Shelvey's sending off.

"We have talked about that for a while".

The second half came to life as Spurs took control of the game and neat interplay in midfield forced Jonjo Shelvey to go in hard on Dele Alli.

"He knows he has made a mistake and he has apologised but it changes nothing now".

He appeared to stamp on Alli's foot after a challenge and his dismissal changed the game for both sides. But we will have to see, analyse everything.

It's one of those things but he's a great player and I'm sure he's going to be disappointed.

"There were a lot of positives, but still if you want to win games then we can't lose our focus for one minute".

Atsu, who joined the Magpies permanently from Chelsea in the summer transfer window after impressing on loan last term, has been trusted by manager Rafa Benitez with a starting berth in their first game of the Premier League. "It's more risky. We lost one player from that", Benitez told BBC Sport.

Further forward, Tottenham's devastating front three of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen all look set to play, but Son Heung-min should miss out.
