Mnuchin viewed eclipse from roof of Fort Knox

Later, the pair, along with Linton, traveled to Fort Knox to view the eclipse near the path of totality sometime between 12:59 p.m. and 3:51 p.m. when the eclipse occurred.

A spokesperson for the Treasury Department said the trip was official business to discuss tax reform, and that later in the day the majority leader, the treasury secretary, Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin and a few others visited the goal depository in Fort Knox.

But now there are more questions, namely whether the whole trip was a ruse to get a good view of the solar eclipse.

Instead of ignoring a rather harmless comment, Linton called Miller "adorably out of touch" and threw her privilege in Miller's face.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin's wife grabbed the media's attention earlier this week after posting a photo to Instagram of her and her husband descending from an Air Force jet clad in hashtagged designer clothing. "Do you think the U.S. govt paid for our honeymoon or personal travel!?!"

According to the Treasury, Mnuchin's objective in Kentucky was to join Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell at the Greater Louisville Inc. luncheon for the local chamber of commerce, an event that was scheduled to take place from 11:30 1 p.m, according to The Washington Post.

Treasury Secretary-designate Steven Mnuchin and his new wife, Louise Linton, in January.

An anonymous Treasury representative told the paper that the secretary "is reimbursing the government for Mrs. Linton's travel, as is long-standing policy regarding civilians on military aircraft". Followers posted comments on the picture, calling it distasteful for Linton to tag such high-end brands in her posts and saying sarcastically they were glad that taxpayers could pay for her trip.

CREW suspects that the trip was organized to coincide with the eclipse, particularly its path of totality, and filed a Freedom of Information Act request for copies of all trip documents (including authorization and cost records). Either as an individual earner in taxes OR in self sacrifice to your country?. "While [Louise] has since apologized for her insensitive post, nothing she says now can negate the fact that her initial response to my frustration was to continue bragging about her wealth and to allege that her contributions to society have been more significant than mine", she writes.

"Just seemed ridiculous and quite frankly offended me as someone who paid for part of their trip", Miller told CNN.

It added that "she does not receive compensation for products she mentions".
