Manchester City's Pep Guardiola: "We have to try to improve".

Manchester City's Pep Guardiola:

"Last season we were favourites too", said Guardiola. That is when I am proud.

"Walker isn't Van Persie and he has his flaws but Pep Guardiola will improve him as he has improved already at Spurs". I can not control it. We were stable. We controlled the game and the game was in our hands.

"Last season, in the early period, people know how fantastic we were".

"We feel ready because we've been at a good level but we have nothing to show for it at the moment", said City captain Vincent Kompany. We'll try this season.

The visitors were kept at bay by the Seagulls until striker Sergio Aguero made the breakthrough after 70 minutes and Lewis Dunk's own goal doubled the advantage.

"After the first one it was a little bit easier but the first game is always a little bit complicated". "We spoke about that -- we saw what happened with Liverpool and Watford, with Chelsea - that's the Premier League".

"Like every club that's promoted to the Premier League, it's to finish 17th or higher". It was hard but we did it.

"We are here to win games, we won but it is just the first one", he added.

"It is disappointing but that is the quality Manchester City have got and we know that", he told BBC Sport.

"There are a lot of positives to take out of this game, building on what we did in preseason".

City manager Pep Guardiola will be under pressure from the start after strengthening his squad with five new signings in the transfer window, costing the club some US$286 million.

"I'm enjoying my football and it's better to play with a smile on your face".

David Silva's assist for Aguero's goal helped the Spaniard receive man of the match honours. And that is the first step to creating something.

"Probably a draw would have been good result for them but we needed a win". Today our box was ideal and in the opponents box we scored two goals but we created more.
