Liverpool's Lallana out for two months

Liverpool's Lallana out for two months

Having just completed the pre-season conditioning work in Germany, the timing could not be worse for Lallana and Klopp, especially given Liverpool must overcome a tricky tie with Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim to reach the Champions League group stage. The news of Lallana's injury has been compounded by Barcelona target Philippe Coutinho, who has been ruled out of the Reds' final pre-season friendly with Athletic Club after suffering a minor back problem.

Klopp was also without his trusted assistants, Zeljko Buvac and Peter Krawietz, who were in Germany to scout Hoffenhiem ahead of the first leg on August 15. It's Hoffenheim and that's for sure not an easy game.

"Everybody is panicking because players are coming in from overseas or from lower Premier League clubs, but I think the team showed they were good enough to compete for a trophy". I'm completely fine with it, I'm happy to know and now we can start preparing.

Jürgen Klopp's side will be favourites against Hoffenheim, but they will be tested by a team who survived relegation under Julian Nagelsmann before pulling off a surprise top-four finish. It's a very interesting club.

Klopp will know Hoffenheim well from his time coaching in Germany, but the Bundesliga club will present a hard obstacle as the Reds look to reach the Champions League group stage.

"They have a lot of really good young players".

"This is certainly not news we would have wanted, but we have no choice". They lost two of them, Sebastian Rudy and Niklas Sule to Bayern Munich and had a little change.

"With the way Liverpool play, they spread the goals around more but it would be great if we could get one player that guarantees you 20 or 25 goals a season - that could be a big difference", he told the Irish Examiner.
