Liverpool Squad Sympathise With Wantaway Midfielder Philippe Coutinho Following Transfer Request

Since arriving at Anfield from Brazilian side Internazionale Milan for £8.5 million, Coutinho has been nothing short of stellar scoring over 40 goals in 182 appearances for the Reds.

Liverpool owners FSG - who consist of John W Henry, the Principal Owner, Chairman Tom Werner and Sports President Mike Gordon - also released a statement that Coutinho is not for sale this window.

Here, we look back at the key dates this summer in Barcelona's pursuit of the Reds star - with the Catalans twice being knocked back with big-money bids.

The Reds are now in the final stages of preparation for their Premier League opener away to Watford on Saturday, which Coutinho will miss with a alleged back injury.

Philippe Coutinho emailed a transfer request to Liverpool minutes after the club had insisted they would not accept any offers for the Brazil playmaker.

But if they do ultimately sell, they have just three weeks to find a replacement, and speaking to Sky Germany on Thursday, Jurgen Klopp stressed that it would be the wrong time to part ways.

But I don't think so because I think it was pretty clear what the club, FSG, said about it.

The German trainer did also confirm that Coutinho will not feature for Liverpool against Watford, revealing that the 25-year-old is struggling with a back complaint.

When the owners of Liverpool Football Club, Fenway Sports Group, issued a statement on Friday morning, a feeling of relief would have flown over Jurgen Klopp.

"He has tremendous love for the club and its fans but, like Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez have pointed out in the past, Liverpool does not let its players leave on amicable terms".

There are problems at Liverpool, and they face Hoffenheim in the Champions League qualifiers on Tuesday.

Questioned on whether his job now was to keep Coutinho happy, Klopp added: "I can't keep players happy".

"You can read it and there is nothing else to say about it". "The rest is not for you, it is between me and all the boys, not just Phil".
