Google launches 'Made for India' initiative for Play Store app developers

To recall, Sunder Pichai at the recent held Google I/O summit had said that there were 2 billion active Android users. More than 70% of internet users in India go online primarily via their smartphones and this number is growing at a phenomenal rate.

Made for India is supposed to help people find apps which are relevant to them and optimized specifically for their needs, while simultaneously helping developers find an audience.

Google India is on the verge of introducing the Indian version of Google Play in the country under Made in India initiative. Google Play Services comes pre-installed on every Android device and powers all the Play services like Play Store, Play Music, Play books, and so on.

Apart from this, Google also revealed some startling facts about Play Store users in India. Besides being the official app store for the Android based operating systems, it also serves as a digital media store offering service such as music, magazine, movies, books among others.

It said these numbers might seem staggering already, but the number of apps installed in India had grown by 150% each year.

Play Services became the first mobile “app” (if you can call them that) to reach 5 billion installs.

Ms Purnima Kochikar, Google Play Director for Business development, Games and applications said the company was committed to help Indian developers of all sizes seize this opportunity to build successful, locally relevant businesses. If we combine the total population of the top 10 most-populated countries in the world, then also it's less than that number and that's the number Google Play Services has achieved.
