Drunk American Assaulted After Giving Nazi Salute in Germany

A drunk American tourist learned this the hard way when he copped a punch in the gob after making a Nazi salute in a bar in Dresden.

The Independent are reporting that the 41 year old sustained minor injuries after the assault which occurred at 8.15am on Saturday morning.

Dresden police would not give the Americans name or main residence for security reasons.

According to police records, the American tourist was extremely intoxicated, as indicated by a high blood alcohol level.

But as one British paper pointed out, those who know the history of the Nazi salute should know not to do it.

Police report that his "assailant" fled the scene, and is being sought on charges, but I do hope they don't look too hard.

In Germany, it is unlawful to show any Nazi images or mottos, including giving the "Heil Hitler" salute.

While residents of Germany and Austria, as well as many of their European neighbors, are educated on the laws forbidding Nazi symbols and expressions, it's not clear if Chinese tourists are aware of the post-1945 statutes. A conviction can carry a prison sentence of up to three years, although courts often impose fines instead.
