Captains go for youth in Solheim Cup selections

Inkster, meanwhile, turned down the opportunity to go for Solheim Cup veterans Paula Creamer and Morgan Pressel with her captain's picks, instead opting for Austin Ernst and Angel Yin. It will amount to Inkster getting a third captain's pick.

In a statement published on social media, Korda said: "Sadly the injury to my forearm is not going to heel (sic) in time for the Solheim Cup".

Jessica Korda has withdrawn from the USA Solheim Cup team after failing to recover from an arm injury, with Paula Creamer named as her replacement. Of the 14 matches that have taken place since the inaugural 1990 event at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club, the Americans have won 9 and the Europeans 5 times. All but Kang have played in the matches.

Annika Sorenstam opted keep the experience of her vice-captain Catriona Matthew in the team room and instead will take four rookies in her European Team to play the U.S. in the Solheim Cup next week.

"It is always hard to say "no" to someone who lives for the Solheim Cup", Sorenstam said.

Korda qualified automatically for the United States team which are Sky Bet's favourites to defend the trophy against Europe in Des Moines, Iowa, but withdrew from the Ricoh Women's British Open after an opening 76 at Kingsbarns.

Inkster then turned to Creamer for her alternative choice, with the 31-year-old having featured in the last six United States of America sides - including last year's 14.5-13.5 victory in Germany. She's a competitor. She wanted to be on the team.
