Antonio Conte accuses Chelsea of losing the plot

Starting on the bench as Conte continue to reward Michy Batshuayi for excellent pre-season form, Morata took just ten minutes to open his Chelsea account - and thus immediately diverging from the Fernando Torres narrative - adding an assist and a disallowed goal not long after.

Sam Vokes scored in the 24th minute, and then the 43rd, whilst Stephen Ward made it three for three in the 39th.

"But today I saw two faces of the team - one positive in the second half and one negative in the first half".

Conte's side did pull two goals back - finding the net even with nine men - but rather than putting blame on referee Craig Pawson, the manager wants his squad to regain their mental focus on the pitch.

He brushed aside questions about reported tension with Chelsea's board over signing new players and said he was not anxious because three key players - Eden Hazard, Pedro and Victor Moses - could return from injury and suspension for Chelsea's next game against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.

Batshuayi, 23, started for the Blues, but was substituted in the second half for new signing Alvaro Morata, who scored the first goal for the London side.

Meanwhile Burnley manager Sean Dyche knows that winning away to the champions on the opening day is only a small step in the northwest side's bid to yet again retain their Premier League status. "We didn't lose the balance and we tried to change the final result". "You can see that in every friendly game I always played the best formation and I did the same today".

But Conte has made no secret of his desire to recruit more players to strengthen his first team for a season that sees the addition of Champions League matches to their fixture list. "We started well with good intensity and were dominating the game".

"It's very hard at this club to make massive strides", the Englishman added.

"There are a lot of big games coming so it's important that we remind ourselves of that".
