6 things to know about new Buffalo Bills WR Jordan Matthews

Matthews was the team's focus at receiver because the Eagles have lacked any real presence on the outside since Chip Kelly let Jeremy Maclin walk out the door after the 2015 season. Matthews has hauled in 225 catches for 2,700 yards and 19 touchdowns in 46 career games. In three seasons, Watkins has caught 65, 60 and 28. The others were Odell Beckham Jr., Mike Evans, A.J. Green and Randy Moss.

Cornerback was clearly the team's greatest need, and there was a clamoring to do something. "We wish Jordan all the best, but we did what we thought was best for our team going forward".

The two deals see Buffalo add extra second and third-round 2018 draft picks to the additional first-rounder they already held after trading down in this year's draft to allow the Kansas City Chiefs to select Patrick Mahomes. The 5-11, 190-pounder had two interceptions and 137 tackles.

Taylor took a $10 million pay cut in March to stay with the Bills, saying at the time he was putting his trust in management to fill in pieces around him after Taylor dealt with a lackluster group of receivers over his first two seasons as the starter. Rookie Sidney Jones could also become a factor when he's recovered from a ruptured Achilles tendon. He battled injuries last season and scored just twice. "People are spreading you out (on defense) with three- and four-wide receiver packages".

"This is a unique opportunity", Roseman told reporters Friday afternoon. "It was still hard to do but when we looked at the overall needs on this team and what this guy could potentially do for us, we thought it was the right deal".

Besides, if the Eagles are developing offensively around free agents Torrey Smith and Alshon Jeffery, there should be less emphasis on the role of the slot receiver.

Nelson Agholor will likely get first-team snaps in Matthews' old slot position.

Along with quarterback Carson Wentz and tight end Zach Ertz, he was among the most popular teammates.
