"On a tip-off, police officers intercepted a cab in which Vikram Chatterjee was travelling just before Acropolis Mall on Rashbehari Avenue connector", Joint CP (Crime) Vishal Garg told The Indian Express. Sonika was rushed to a city hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Vikram, however, denied that he was drunk.

However, Chatterjee said he was deeply sorry for Sonika's family's loss, adding that he was not driving in an inebriated state.

While a lot has been written on the tragic incident and the arrest, not many are know much about the accused, Vikram. "Everybody knows that Arup and his brother controls the Tollywood film industry".

However, the case got complex when the officer at the blood detecting lab said the sample submitted is not enough to prove Vikram was under the influence of alcohol at the time of driving.

The accident happened around 3:30am on April 29 when Vikram and Sonika were returning from a late night party.

The incident turned into in a big controversy after Vikram, who was immediately arrested after the accident, was released on bail. During the previous interrogation, he confessed to having consumed alcohol on the night of the accident, but claimed that he was not drunk and the vehicle was not speeding.
