Syrian baby Justin Trudeau meets Canada's prime minister

Mr Trudeau was seen cradling two-month-old Justin-Trudeau Adam Bilal as he spoke to the baby's parents at an annual rodeo event in the Canadian city of Calgary on Saturday.

Afraa Hajj Hammoud and Mohammed Belal left Syria six years ago, and lived in Lebanon for three years before heading to Canada as refugees. Canada has since then accepted 40,081 refugees in the country.

Ms Hammoud told Canadian broadcaster CBC meeting the man who inspired her son's name and gave them their new life in Canada was an incredible experience.

Baby Justin's parents now hope that their child would get to meet the prime minister someday. While Syrian children are generally named after their grandparents, the refugee couple chose to name their boy after the prime minister to showing gratitude that the country has accepted them. "I love him, because he knows what humanity means", Hammoud told the CBC.

"But now it's by appreciation for Justin Trudeau, we name him like this", she said.

In the midst of US President Donald Trump's immigration ban, Mr Trudeau took to twitter to welcome anyone seeking refuge from war or unrest and offered temporary residency to stranded travellers.

The couple arrived in Montreal in February of past year in the midst of Canada's bitterly cold winter accompanied by their daughter Naya, who is 4, and their son Nael who is 3.
