Soldier injured in Pakistan shelling on LoC

The Pakistan Army violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch's Balakote and Rajouri's Manjakote and Bhimber Gali sector. A soldier was also injured, he said.

In the firing and shelling, 9-year-old Sajada Kouser was killed at Baroti, the officer said.

The ISPR said that Pakistani forces had responded to the ceasefire violation. Bhatt also talked about the increasing incidences of Pakistani troops helping militants to cross over to the Indian side.

"Shelling and firing exchanges were continuing at both places when last reports came", the sources added.

"It is mainly Manjakote where 4,000-5,000 civilian population has been affected". He was killed when mortar shells landed in his bunker earlier this morning. Apart from these, firing by Indian troops was initiated against armed intruders when attempting to infiltrate from close proximity of Pakistani Army posts along the LoC. The prime minister also expressed deep grief and condolences with bereaved families of the martyred personnel.

They identified the slain soldier as Lance Naik Mohammed Naseer, a resident of neighbouring Poonch district.

They belonged to the Army's Jammu and Kashmir Rifles and were residents of Jammu region of the State.

"So far, five people have been brought to the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital Nakyal, with multiple injuries, but I am afraid there might be more injured persons", he said.

India and Pakistan had in November 2003 agreed to cease fire along the de facto border but violations have intensified since the 2016 Kashmir unrest and amid souring of ties between the two countries.

The two armies often blame each other for initiating firing across the cease-fire line.

In response to the alleged attack on the vehicle, Pakistan's military fired at Indian soldiers along the LoC.

The (targeted) vehicle fell in to the Neelum River.

India had then declared it would "pro-actively dominate" the LoC by destroying Pak Army posts aiding infiltration, as was reported by TOI. There were 382 in 2016, 248 in 2015 and 315 in 2014, he said.
