SA name new Test captain in Faf's absence

South Africa captain Faf du Plessis will miss the first Test against England which starts on 6th July due to family reasons. He said that this series will be an opportunity to strengthen their credentials for reaching the summit of the ICC Test rankings.

In that period South Africa has won seven out of 11 Tests and a sign of how strong the bowling has been is that the Proteas have eschewed utilising an established new ball combination and in fact had six different pairs to open the bowling.

Moosajee added: "The mother and baby have settled at home, but (Faf) will be unable to make it back in time to take part in the first Test match".

The last time England played in a Test series was against India a year ago. They are required with Chris Woakes and Jake Ball out.

The questions in our quiz are a little tougher, though, so make sure you take it on before Root leads his charges out in a Test match for the first time against South Africa at Lord's on Thursday, live on Sky Sports 2.

The Proteas will be led by Dean Elgar in the first Test, which begins on Thursday, and Richards is confident those coming into the side will be more than ready to stake their claim for a regular place. Elgar is the right leader for that, according to Domingo. It goes beyond that old cliche that you need "20 wickets to win a game" - because it's the bowlers who've been the most consistent element for the South African team in the last 12 months.
