Rey's Force Awakens Monopoly Token Meets A Tragic Fate

Rey's Force Awakens Monopoly Token Meets A Tragic Fate

This was odd considering Rey's main role in The Force Awakens, and her prominent placement on all the posters and marketing for the film - which kind of negates Hasbro's weak excuse that they kept her out of the game, and other toy lines, for spoiler reasons. She is the star of The Force Awakens, yet was noticeably absent from items including the Star Wars Monopoly game, which only featured male characters as tokens.

After inquiries from The Associated Press this week, Pawtucket, R.I. -based Hasbro said it made the piece but didn't release the new version in the United States "due to insufficient interest". "In some markets, including the US, the original version of the 2015 game was selling well and retailers had adequate inventory so they opted not to list the new version". Fans who really want the piece can call Hasbro to request it.

While making Rey available to anyone who asks for it is pretty great, fans would love to see Rey right away in the Star Wars: Monopoly game. She pointed out that a lot of kids won't know to call the company and said she was disappointed.

Annie Rose Goldman, a very smart 8-year-old, wrote the following letter to Hasbro upon finding out that there was no Rey figure in her Star Wars Monopoly set. Despite the game not following the plot of "The Force Awakens" so how her inclusion in the game could be considered a spoiler is still a mystery. Rose wrote. "And without her, the bad guys would have won!"

If Rey were a male character, it's very fair to assume there'd be a Rey figurine; the game now ships with Force Awakens characters Kylo Ren and Finn, after all. Besides, boys and girls need to see that women can be as strong as men! She's a powerful female character, one that young people definitely look up to. Daisy Ridley returns to star as Rey, with other returning stars John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Peter Mayhew, Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, Lupita Nyong'o Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa. "You'd expect to have a female character at least", Ian Henry, of Maidenhead, United Kingdom, told the AP.

He bought the game for his 4-year-old son from Amazon and sent a Twitter message to Hasbro complaining about the omission.

"Star Wars Monopoly just arrived". Following an interview with Monopoly's overseers, the reasoning behind her absence has now been revealed.

"She's like, "Oh, OK, I have to choose from those ones, '" he said". That includes board games, and that of course includes Monopoly.
