Red Wings sign defensemen Trevor Daley to 3-year deal

Red Wings sign defensemen Trevor Daley to 3-year deal

"As we headed into free agency, one of the areas we really wanted to address was our blue line", Red Wings general manager Ken Holland acknowledged. Those days are undoubtedly over, at least for now.

Daley signed a three-year contract with the Red Wings on Saturday, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports, adding that his deal is worth $3.178 million annually. Tyler Bertuzzi and Evgeny Svechnikov looked like they were ready to come up previous year and proved it in the Calder Cup playoffs. "And we think Trevor Daley can help us do that".

This is a good landing spot for Daley as he will likely get significant power-play ice time with the Wings who needed to bolster their point play with the man advantage.

Stay tuned to for up-to-minute analysis of all the biggest deals, as they happen. He can play both right wing and right defense, and is more likely to do the former with the Wings.

"Every since I came into this league Detroit has set the mark of where a team should be, their playoff history, their Stanley Cups just the history in Detroit, to me was a no brainer to try to be apart of what they're trying to do", Daley said. With the exception of a 16-goal, 38-point performance when he was in Dallas, Daley has never been a huge offensive producer, but he's capable of producing 20 points and start the plays that lead to goals, even if his name doesn't appear on the scoresheet.

They have signed MI native Luke Witkowski, who comes with a painful reminder for one Wings forward.
