Michael Carrick Confirmed as New Manchester United Captain

Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has urged Tanzania's Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan to support Everton ahead of their friendly match against local club Gor Mahia on Thursday.

Many fans came out to see Wayne Rooney while others travelled from the Democratic Republic of Congo to see Congolese winger Yannick Bolasie who plays for Everton FC.

That clarification is an attempt to alleviate more cynical observations regarding the England midfielder's omission given the ongoing stand-off between the player and his manager Ronald Koeman.

Will the real Wayne Rooney please stand up.

With the game having been slated for July 12 at the Taifa Stadium, team Everton landed in Tanzania and photos their interactions and activities have been making rounds on social media.

According to the Daily Mail, global midfielder Ross Barkley missed out on this trip with his future at the club still unclear in the wake of a contractual stand-off. "Last time we weren't able to showcase our all simply because some of our key players were left behind".

It's always interesting when you come to these places to meet the people from here and try and learn a bit about the culture here and it was good.

"Bonny (Boniface) Odhiambo was not part of the winning team as well as Musa Mohamed the skipper".

Carrick, who arrived at the club from Tottenham in 2006, signed a new one-year deal at United in May, and he insists it will be a "pleasure" to lead Jose Mourinho's team next season.
