'Mamma Mia' Sequel Adds Lily James

'Mamma Mia' Sequel Adds Lily James

Lily is set to play the role of a "young" Donna Sheridan, though the part was originally played by Meryl Streep. The Mamma Mia sequel will feature ABBA songs that were not in the first film, though some will be reprised. Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus will return to provide music and lyrics and serve as executive producers.

Lily James is also on board to play the younger version of Streep's character.

Lily James can now be seen in Baby Driver, directed by Edgar Wright. According to the site, the film will go "back and forth in time to show how relationships forged in the past resonate in the present".

Here We Go Again has already confirmed that much of the original movie's cast-including Streep, Amanda Seyfried, and Christine Baranski-will return for the sequel, while Ol Parker, who helmed The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, is set to direct.

James, who got her start in the London theatre scene, has toplined recent movies like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and 2015's Cinderella, along with recurring in the later seasons of Downton Abbey. You can also see James in this year's likely awards contender Darkest Hour - a biopic about Winston Churchill starring Gary Oldman.

When Mamma Mia! Was first released in 2008, it received global critical acclaim and earned over $600 million at the box office worldwide, so we can expect the sequel to be just as impressive.
