Later, addressing both houses of Parliament, Felipe said Spain was saddened by Britain's decision to leave the European Union but respects it.

On Wednesday, Queen Elizabeth II greeted Spain's King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia for the kick-off of their first-ever state visit.

Emphasizing the strong historical ties between the two nations, the king also expressed confidence that they could overcome their differences over Gibraltar and "work toward arrangements that are acceptable for all involved".

So the UK's decision to leave the European Union will clearly have an impact on citizens of both countries.

The Duchess of Cornwall and Spain's Queen Letizia leave their hotel by auto in London at the start of the King's State Visit to the UK.

Felipe and Letizia will meet prominent Spanish expats at the Spanish Ambassador's house. The long-line collarless lemon blazer featured a minimal style and textured fabric, and complimented the royal's slimline physique.

The trip is the first state visit by a Spanish king to the United Kingdom since Felipe's father, Juan Carlos, came 31 years ago.

As he arrived in London, the flag of Gibraltar was on display outside the Houses of Parliament.

Tonight, many members of the British Royal Family are expected to attend The State Banquet including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.

King Felipe then shared a carriage with the Queen for the traditional procession down the Mall while his wife shared a ride with Prince Philip.

King Felipe will lay a wreath at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior and the prince will join them on a short tour of the abbey, including the Tomb of Eleanor "Leonor" of Castile - the 13th-Century Spanish princess who married Edward I.
