Director Ava DuVernay unveils Oprah Winfrey's look from 'A Wrinkle in Time'

Chief Ava DuVernay, new off of overwhelming ventures like the social equality drama Selma and her criminal-equity exposé 13th, was attracted to dally unknown science fiction domain after finding creator Madeline L'Engle's novel as a grown-up. Now the Mouse House has unveiled some dazzling first-look images from the movie, and from these photos alone, it's clear the director put every penny of that budget to good use. Check out the photos below! Joining her will be her younger brother Charles Wallace (Deric McCabe), who will help Meg unlock her inner warrior, and the three aforementioned celestial beings. She takes part in a search for her father and sees some incredible creatures along the way. Which, Mindy Kaling as a smokey-eyed Mrs. The story centers on a young girl, Meg, and follows her on a dimension-hopping adventure to find her father, a scientist who works for the government who has mysteriously gone missing.

So, DuVernay's perspective is refreshing, because from the very start she was considering how this fictional universe that blends both scientific and fantasy elements could actually reflect the real, diverse world in which we live. A Wrinkle in Time will arrive in theaters on March 9, 2018.

Entertainment Weekly has the exclusive images that include photos on set, film stills and shots of stars Mindy Kaling, Oprah Winfrey, and Reese Witherspoon. Gugu Mbatha-Crude and Chris Pine play Meg's folks, two widely acclaimed physicists, the last of whom vanishes under baffling conditions. "My whole process with this film was, what if?"

Of casting Winfrey, Witherspoon and Kaling as the magical trio, she says to EW, "With these women, I wondered, could we make them women of different ages, body types, races?"

"I am not concerned with purists who imagine Meg as a White girl with red hair", DuVernay said.

"[Mrs. Which] is so much of what [Winfrey] teaches and shared through her shows over the years. about owning your light and conquering darkness and how we have to power ourselves through this life in a certain way and look out for each other", DuVernay said.
