Bryce Harper has a brilliant All-Star Game idea-a draft

Washington Nationals right fielder Bryce Harper is ready for the start of football season. Being able to play all-star games with him, being able to see him pitch when he was young and things like that, just words can't explain how saddened baseball is.

It was originally reported that Harper would sport a pair of special edition Under Armour "Miami Bryce" cleats for his fifth straight All-Star Game. National League format, Harper would like the game take more of a sandlot feel, with two captains choosing teams.

Unfortunately, there's a slight problem with Harper's idea. As always, the format will feature AL players against NL players. Harper just gave them a freebie. Interest in this game is at an all-time low and it's hard to believe that most changes, even this one, will ever get that interest back to pre-cable numbers. As Harper notes, you could see teammates vs. teammates and iconic veterans side-by-side in ways you couldn't otherwise.

The NFL and National Hockey League have tried the draft format-the NFL had former players pick sides, while the National Hockey League had All-Stars choose their teammates-but it was eventually scrapped when the twist failed to add excitement to the game.

Listen, we know it's tough to catch up on everything happening in the baseball world each morning.
