Be circumspect in reconciliation moves, Wike advises PDP

Bayelsa State governor, Henry Seriake Dickson and his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike have differed on the place of Senator Modu Ali Sheriff in the future of Peoples Democratic Party, following his sack as factional chairman of the opposition party last Wednesday.

The PDP Chairman explained that though there was genuine plans to reconcile all the party faithful, only those willing to embrace same can be reconciled with.

Wike stated this while speaking at an interdenominational thanksgiving service at the Ecumenical Centre in Port Harcourt.

Obi, in a statement by his Media Office, expressed great joy over the judgement, saying that Almighty God has used the Supreme Court to heal the wounds of the PDP family.

"The "no victor, no vanquished" that we said was a mere political slogan".

Apart from Sheriff, some of those in his camp were the party's former National Secretary, Prof. "Internal democracy must be institutionalised in the party", the statement said.

The ruling party also described what it said was the penchant by some PDP members to mock President Muhammadu Buhari over his ill-health as un-African and distasteful. "There is no unit in the country without a member of the PDP ".

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Friday dismissed reports that it was investigating the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Makarfi.

"If PDP had fully implemented its manifesto in the 16 years that it was in power, Nigerians would not have been attracted to the APC promise of change in 2015, because there would have been little left to promise".

According to him, under such a situation, no sensible person would take the PDP serious in their boast to win the 2019 presidential election, adding that the best the party could do is to rebrand its image and possible try and change its badly damaged name.

The governor said that going forward Rivers State must get return on her contributions to the PDP.

While it behooves the PDP to be united, stronger and more focused after the crisis, it should strive to serve as a shadow government to the APC administration as it prepares itself for the 2019 general elections.

"Without such support, genuine reconciliation can not take place; without such support, the Caretaker Committee will have a herculean task organizing an acceptable convention, without genuine reconciliation, the party can not move forward".
