Gadot first emerged as the titular hero in last year's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The movie already triggered controversy a year ago when the character of Wonder Woman was chosen as an honorary United Nations ambassador to fight for gender equality.

The Alamo responded to numerous negative comments, pointing out that they have hosted screenings for select groups before, including veterans for military films, and that it's about a celebration of the Wonder Woman character. "She's a major superhero". She was definitely one of the best things about that movie, so it's good to see her taking up Diana's whip again.

Following the enthusiasm of the first sold-out screening, a theatre spokesman said organisers have added a second screening in Austin, which has also sold out.
