Warriors beat Cavaliers to clinch NBA title

The Warriors were expected to come out guns blazing since they were back home and they did that up to a point in the first quarter as Cleveland were determined to keep their season alive, winning the first quarter and turning the Oracle Arena into a silent collection of golden t-shirts.

The first-time title victor scored 39 points as point guard Stephen Curry posted 34 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland. "I just wanted to lay it all out there. I can't lie", Curry said, joined by his wife, Ayesha, mother Sonya and two daughters, Riley and Ryan.

"I'm happy for him", Curry said. "It was sweet. I mean, revenge is always sweet and this was payback from past year", another Warriors fan said. Durant scored 30-plus points in each of the five games as the Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers.

In the wake of the Golden State Warriors regaining their National Basketball Association title with a 4-1 Finals win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, there will be plenty of people trying to put an asterisk next to it because of the Kevin Durant signing. And with the team's core lineup all in their prime, it looks like they could remain at championship caliber for several more seasons.

Durant did indeed join a ready-made contender by teaming up with two-time reigning league MVP Stephen Curry on a team that won it all in 2015 and was runner-up past year after a season in which it had a record 73 wins in 82 games.

The answer: An emphatic no.

In three seasons as head coach of the Warriors, Kerr has amassed a 207-39 record.

The rest of the world may think Durant and the Warriors took the easy way out when they came together, but that's nonsense.

"From when I played against him in 2012 to now. experience is the best teacher in life, and it also helps when you're able to experience things with this team". These Warriors will now continue to try to chase down history and become the greatest dynasty in league history, a pursuit of multiple championships that will enter them into the "best team ever" conversation. "It's tough to get back and get matched, especially with their speed". LeBron James had a great series, averaging a triple-double, but he didn't have enough accompanying firepower to battle this Golden State team. "But nobody cared, as long as we won". It's all about the group. "And to do it with these guys is wonderful". Everyone from ordinary folks to famous people all celebrated as one after the Warriors' big win.

Their superior depth proved vital, with Warriors bench players contributing 35 points - including 20 from Andre Iguodala - to just seven for the Cavs' back-ups. You've got to tip your hat to Cleveland. "There was never any question in my mind that this was going to work".

Now James and the Cavs are left to ponder their next move - or moves - to get back on top, assuming that they can even get back on top again.

"There's no doubt in my mind that (Kerr) will return as the coach of this team", Myers told ESPN.

Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue lamented a game-ending 11-0 Golden State run to win game three.

"They started to go with the pick-and-roll with Steph Curry and Durant, which might be one of the most unstoppable pick-and-rolls in our league", Lue said. I'm just so happy Kevin has broken through. "That's the type of guy that I want to be with every single time".

Monday's loss denied the Cavaliers a chance to repeat as champions and for James to get his fourth championship ring.

But a Durant dunk about four minutes into the second sent the sold-out hometown crowd into a frenzy.

"As far as that team, they're going to be here for a while", James said of the Warriors. "They're going to be around for a while". "Pretty much all their big-name guys are in their 20s, and they don't show any signs of slowing down".

"That's a championship team, you know?"

James is in the latter stages of his career after 14 National Basketball Association seasons but is so dominant and playing at such a high level that he can turn any team into an instant contender. Although he did not have the individual game high numbers, Thompson averaged 16.4 points per game over the finals.

"I left everything on the floor every game, all five games", he said.

Kyrie Irving had 26 points while JR Smith had 25. "And that's all you can ask".
