Republicans win congressional seats in Georgia and SC

And when you hear Republicans talk in the gym or running around the House floor, they say, you know, just keep going the way you're going because we're still using this.

On the day of the Georgia special election, which was the culmination of the most expensive House race in American history, Democrat candidate Jon Osseff was asked by National Public Radio reporter Rachel Martin about the cost of the campaign - almost $50 million between the two candidates.

Pelosi allies have pushed back at the blame game, and pointed to the improvement Democrats had in other special elections in Kansas, Montana and SC as evidence that their efforts to harness the resistance against Trump was working. While he avoided casting the election as a referendum on Trump, Democrats clearly hoped it would be. And the media will shift its focus from the special elections back to policy, lawmakers said, even as the Russian Federation investigation continues to dominate the headlines.

Pelosi "consistently polls very unfavorably", said John Rogers, the executive director of the National Republican Congressional Committee - the House GOP's campaign arm.

And GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger of IL noted: "There are local reasons (why Ossoff lost). He didn't live in the district", added Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.). But the election didn't provide the shocking results some predicted. But in York and Lancaster Counties, which include suburbs and exurbs of Charlotte, North Carolina, where more than half of the vote in the special election was cast, Norman, won 55%-44%.

"Clearly Karen Handel defended us on [healthcare] and ran on 'We need to get this stuff done".

"I think our leadership owes an explanation of what happened, how resources were spent, but also a plan going forward", Moulton said yesterday.

Handel's tough race, combined with closer-than-usual GOP House victories in Kansas, Montana and SC, suggests Trump will dominate the coming election cycle, forcing Republicans to make peace with him, for better or worse.

Once again, Democrats exceeded expectations in two special congressional elections.

Congressional Democrats have accused Republicans of shutting them out of the debate over issues such as health care and taxes. But last night, Republican Karen Handel was able to declare victory over Democrat Jon Ossoff.

Democratic lawmakers said that Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca.) should step down as the leader of the party as the embattled House Minority Leader defended her leadership.

"I think you'd have to be an idiot to think we could win the House with Pelosi at the top", Rep. Filemon Vela (D-TX) told Politico Wednesday.

"Just think about what a unified American nation could achieve", the President said.

Trump previous year narrowly won Georgia's 6th District, which was vacated when Tom Price became secretary of Health and Human Services.

The thank you to Trump was Handel's most public show of support of the man who wasn't embraced by many voters in the well-educated suburban Atlanta district in November and who she handled delicately throughout a primary and runoff election to fill the congressional seat vacated by Tom Price to take a spot in Trump's cabinet. But he said there is no doubt that "this is one occasion when we ought to say he deserves to take a victory lap".
