Orlando City, Canada striker Larin arrested for DUI

Major League Soccer side Orlando City could be without Canadian forward Cyle Larin for an extended period.

Canada and Orlando City striker Cyle Larin was arrested on a DUI charge in Florida at around 5am on Thursday morning, police have confirmed.

Larin, of Brampton, Ont., had "difficulty" answering officers and blew a.179 - well above the legal limit, according to the Sentinel's report.

The driver, who had a female passenger with him, told the trooper he was "unfamiliar with the area and was not from around here", the report said. Another vehicle just avoided a head-on collision with Larin's Cadillac, officers said.

It's unclear if Larin will be available to play when Toronto FC visits Central Florida in early July.

As Larin came to a stop, someone driving a Mercedes was able to stop in time to prevent a head-on crash, according to the arrest report.

In a statement released on Orlando CIty's team website, MLS confirmed Larin will be assessed by doctors working with the league's substance abuse program.

His eyes were bloodshot and glossy, troopers said. The officer says the odor of booze is obvious and Larin changes his story.

The soft-spoken striker, a former University of CT star whose previously had only made news for his play on the field, is one of the young stars of Major League Soccer.

Larin earned his 20th cap for Canada on Tuesday in a 2-1 win over Curacao in Montreal.

Larin will not be eligible to participate in any competition or team activity, until that assessment is complete, he is cleared for participation by the SABH Program doctors, and Major League Soccer completes its investigation. He has eight goals in 15 games this season, tied for third in the league.
