Michael Phelps will race a great white during TV's Shark Week

Now we are going to have the chance to see Michael Phelps race a shark for Discovery's Shark Week in July.

The competition is part of the Discovery Channel's Shark Week lineup.

Great White, the retired athlete will take on the ocean's most efficient predator in a competition of speed. Thirty-nine world records. Twenty-three Olympic golds. "An event so monumental no one has ever attempted it before", it continues. Produced by Peacock Productions. Great White (airing July 23 at 8 p.m. ET).

It's unlikely that the Discovery Channel would set Phelps up for complete failure.

According to an official statement recently released by The Discovery Channel, the perennial gold medal victor will be participating in the one-of-a-kind event as part of the infamous "Shark Week". Is Phelps joining Mr. Shark in the ocean, or has Mr. Shark personally challenged Phelps to a showdown at the local Y?

Twenty-three Olympic gold medals aren't going to protect you from a shark, Michael Phelps. Was Michael Phelps getting some practice in ahead of the big race?

That said, it's good to know Shark Week is back soon, and if anyone is capable of pulling off a miracle in the water, it's probably Michael Phelps.

Discovery Channel in the United States has commissioned a factual special on hammerhead sharks from UK indie Icon Films to form part of its annual Shark Week schedule. Phelps recently gave a taste of what the audience might expect by posting a photo portraying a great white shark passing by a diving cage. White sharks, on the other hand, can swim at an estimated 25 miles per hour, according data by ReefQuest Center for Shark Research.
