Lions acquire OT Robinson from Rams and sign OT Kouandjio

On Thursday, the Lions picked up two candidates with Alabama football roots to fill the opening left by Decker's injury.

The Los Angeles Rams have traded offensive tackle Greg Robinson to the Detroit Lions, the team announced Thursday. However, the Detroit Lions have a strong team offensively and one of the best offensive lines in the NFC. It is possible that Decker begins the season on the sidelines instead of on the field.

Robinson, the second overall selection of the 2014 NFL Draft, was a highly-touted prospect, but the former Auburn Tiger never met his potential with the Rams.

Caldwell refused to say what Kouandjio told him about the situation.

"For the most part, there's nothing that's really new in regards to what we expect from Cornelius [Lucas] because he's played before", Caldwell said. "That's what we're all about". Obviously only one can win, so we'll see what happens after that.

Detroit also waived long snapper Jimmy Landes and tackle Arturo Uzdavinis. By Carlos Monarrez, DFP. In fact, per ESPN's Alden Gonzalez, Robinson had completely lost his chance at the starting job to Jamon Brown, and thus he became expendable. He started 42 games for the Rams, but has struggled mightily throughout his first three professional seasons.

Detroit was suddenly in the market for left tackle help. The Lions confirmed the move. They benched him twice amid a 4-12 season in 2016, then splurged on a free-agent left tackle, Andrew Whitworth, and opted against picking up the fifth-year option on Robinson's rookie contract.

Acquiring Robinson did not cost the Lions a hill of cash or players either. "I'm concerned about what he does for us". "Anytime you can get a position that improves a significant amount in this league, 1 percent, 2 percent is big in this league".

"Muhlbach is our guy and that's where we are at this point", Caldwell said. I guess makes for interesting reading for someone, but for us we know what he certainly - he's got ability. So getting a sixth-round pick is better than getting absolutely nothing.
