Jerry West to leave Golden State Warriors for Clippers

National Basketball Association legend Jerry West is leaving the Golden State Warriors after six years with the club to take on advisory role with the Clippers, Sports Illustrated's Jack McCallum reported Wednesday.

West has worked with Golden State for about six years. West will go to work for Steve Ballmer's Los Angeles Clippers, a team loaded with talent that has failed to triumph in the Western Conference. I don't feel old, I feel really competitive.

West said he would like to help Doc Rivers, the coach and president of basketball operations, and general manager Lawrence Frank. Sometimes you need to be challenged.

The Los Angeles Clippers will reportedly announce they are close to finalizing plans for a new stadium in Inglewood, California, on Thursday, according to the Los Angeles Times' Brad Turner and Los Angeles Daily News' Vincent Bonsignore. Then in the 1990s he was widely credited as the architect of the Kobe Bryant-Shaquille O'Neal transactions that led the team to three tiles - plus two more in the Bryant-Pau Gasol era after West had left the team. A Hall of Famer on the court, West won an NBA Championship in 1972 with the Lakers. "I've kind of been defiant my whole life".

His presence will lend an heir of stability to a Clippers organization that is only beginning to rise above a history of losing, penny-pinching and scandal. Starting shooting guard J.J. Redick also becomes an unrestricted free agent.
