HTC U11 announced in India

The smartphone made its debut in HTC's home market last month, and now is all set to get launched in the Indian market as well at a speculated price of about Rs 50,000. Its sky-high price tag puts the device in league with other flagship offerings like the Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6. We got our hands on the device at HTC's India launch event, and here are our first impressions.

To begin with, the smartphone looks quite lovely. The phone sports 3D glass on both the sides and features a unique 3-axis symmetry that makes the phone look slim from every angle. The phone has "liquid surface" design scheme with metal frame and highly polished glass on the back. However, the design had a downside to it too. The fingerprint scanner is housed underneath the Home Button in the front. It's rated IP67 for water and dust resistance. Essentially, towards the lower half of the smartphone's edges, the HTC U11 senses your clutch.

Many were not impressed when HTC announced its U Ultra handset back in January. You can customize the force level of your squeeze and assign it to launch an app. Wang claims HTC's Vive headset is considered the best out there, and the company would like to hold onto this position of success and influence. HTC says that the U11 will offer up to 336 hours of talk time on 3G. Here's how. Imagine you need to pick up some heavy grocery bags, while you are holding the HTC U11 in the palm.

The phone runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with HTC Sense UI, HTC Edge Sense and HTC Sense Companion. You will be required to apply different pressures for opening different functions of the phone.

As mentioned earlier, the U11 has Edge Sense technology, which allows you to squeeze the smartphone. Thankfully in India, the HTC U11 is getting the 128GB of onboard storage along with the microSD card that supports up to 2TB.

HTC U11 is a 4G-VoLTE empowered cell phone with support for most the real groups for India, including Band 5, Band 40, Band 41, and so on. The camera can also record 4K video with 3D audio. All this raw power should allow for a great user experience.

Additionally, the device also comes with USB-C audio, HTC USonic with Active Noise Cancellation, HTC BoomSound Hi-Fi edition, 3D Audio Recording with four microphones, Hi-Res audio certified.

Connectivity options in the device include GLONASS, USB 3.1 Type-C port, GPS/ A-GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4GHz & 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2, and NFC support. It also has a 5.5-inch QHD display, the latest Snapdragon 835 processor and a 12 megapixel UltraPixel camera on the back, which is now the highest rated among smartphones by DxOMark.

Pictures that move U - HTC U11 has achieved the highest ever rating for a smartphone camera for both photo and video by independent metric DxOMarkwith an incredible score of 90.

In terms of the camera, we are looking at a 12-megapixel rear camera.
