Gunman who shot congressman had history of anti-GOP activity

The gunman who shot a top GOP congressman and several other people Wednesday at a baseball practice outside Washington had a long history of lashing out at Republicans, and recently frightened a neighbor by firing a rifle into a field behind his IL home.

New reports about the shooter have recently come to light, revealing that this may not have been an unfathomable act for the man to commit.

Sanders, an independent who ran as a progressive populist but was defeated by Hillary Clinton, said the suspect had "apparently volunteered" on his campaign. Sanders said he denounced the violence "in the strongest possible terms".

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La), among others, was shot.

New Hampshire 2nd District Congresswoman Ann Kuster, D-Hopkinton, similarly described the violence as "horrifying", adding that "I'm thankful for the heroic response by Capitol Police, local law enforcement, first responders, and my colleagues who saved countless lives".

Authorities said Wednesday there was not yet a clear motive for the shooting, as the FBI investigated Hodgkinson's associations and social media postings.

Hodgkinson's Facebook profile featured a large cover photo of Sanders, a USA senator from Vermont who ran unsuccessfully to be the Democratic Party's presidential candidate past year.

Scalise, a lobbyist, a congressional staffer, and two Capitol Police officers were also injured in the shooting. The shooting came as a shock to him.

Hodgkinson, who had a home inspection business, "was a really nice guy". Schaumleffel heard gunshots going off outside of his home while his grandchild were playing outside, and he ultimately found Hodgkinson outside.

Five people were wounded on Wednesday morning when a gunman opened fire at a baseball field in Alexandria, Virginia. In April 2006, he and his wife were arrested and charged with domestic battery and aggravated discharge of a firearm for an altercation with neighbors over the Hodgkinsons' foster daughter.

The police report says Hodgkinson had a valid concealed carry licence for the hunting rifle and was released. What did she say? St. Louis Public Radio today spoke to the political director of the Sanders campaign in Missouri, Adam Kustra, who recalled that Hodgkinson was not in great physical shape. Bernie Sanders in 2016. Court records show that his legal trouble started in the 1990s.

Hodgkinson was in the YMCA Sunday afternoon, according to Del Ray resident Kris Balderston, who said he had seen Hodgkinson in the gym before, alone and not in workout clothes. He later died of his injuries, President Donald Trump told the nation from the White House.

"I'm sorry that he did this, but there's nothing I can do about it", she said. So he changed the subject back to tires, and with that, he said, Hodgkinson's anger "fizzled". And they say he was living out of it since March. The charges were dismissed later that year, according to the court clerk.

"With a background of over 30 years in construction, it was a logical & relatively easy move to becoming a Home Inspector", he or someone affiliated with him apparently wrote on Yelp. "He was just a very calm, rational person, I thought".
