Golden State Warriors Win Second NBA Championship In Three Seasons

Durant, who famously called his mom the "real MVP" when he won the NBA MVP Award in 2014, knew what it felt like to lose a 3-1 lead - and losing to LeBron James. Golden State selected Curry No. 7 overall in 2009. "What we've built here is truly special, it's unique, it's something that you don't want to see end at all", Curry said.

The phrase "super team" has been thrown around the National Basketball Association a lot in recent years, but never more than in the last few days following the Warriors' second National Basketball Association title in three years - their first since adding former league MVP Kevin Durant.

This time, Curry, Durant and the rest of the team silenced Cleveland before they had a chance to make more noise.

The Warriors, once again, showed their team depth with Andre Iguodala scoring 20 off the bench, including several emphatic dunks and three-point shots that seemed to rejuvenate the Warriors and their fans.

As good as the team that Cleveland beat was, the latest edition with NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Durant, who averaged 35.2 points and 8.4 rebounds in the finals, is even better. And like I said, I just try to do everything to just try to help this team win and more. So for me personally, I have nothing to be-I have no reason to put my head down. This is a moment that we all need to enjoy together.

In Game 5, King James scored 41 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists.

James became the first player to ever average a triple-double in the Finals, and it wasn't almost enough to beat the league's best team.

But Durant was quick to congratulate last year's champions.

James said he had no reason to feel sorry for himself. "And I was like, OK, we left everything on the floor, and it still wasn't enough".

It was an unprecedented third consecutive meeting between the clubs in the finals and both appear ready to continue their domination of conference rivals on the way to an annual showdown for the crown.

In the time that LeBron spent in Miami, the Cavaliers had a combined win-loss record of 97-215. Early in the second half, the Cavaliers managed to narrow the Warriors lead, but were never able to draw level.

The 2014 MVP's length and shooting ability was too much for Cleveland's overmatched defence.

"Somebody asked me about it a couple months ago like the hypothetical if a championship were to happen what would I do and I think I answered I wouldn't go". Though those two were the focal point of their offense, one can not exclude the huge contributions of Andre Iguodala and Draymond Green with the latter scoring 10 points while grabbing 12 rebounds and dishing out 5 assists.

Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue said there were tears in the locker room after the final defeat, including his own.

Golden State took the series' first three games before Cleveland won a game at home, creating a 3-1 deficit.

Many think that Durant leaving the Thunder to join the 73-win Warriors created a super team of All-Stars and potential Hall of Famers, tipping the competitive scales of the National Basketball Association beyond fix.
