United Airlines earns naming rights to LA Coliseum

USC officials had no immediate comment on the report.

USC has been searching for a partner since 2015 when the university entered into a marketing partnership with Rupert Murdoch's FOX Sports.

United Airlines is set to buy the naming rights to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, home of the USC football team, according to Michael Smith and John Ourand of Sports Business Daily.

Few other college football programs in the nation could demand such a price for the naming rights to its stadium. Los Angeles International Airport serves as one of United's USA hubs and its CEO, Oscar Munoz, is a graduate of USC. It could be the United Coliseum, or the United Airlines Los Angeles Coliseum, or even something like United Airlines Field at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The revenue will reportedly help offset the $270 million renovations to the stadium, which are in the early stages. University and Fox officials have previously said "Memorial Coliseum" would remain part of the name, Sports Business Daily reported. The Coliseum has been around a long time and resisted corporate sponsorship all along, so surely some people won't be thrilled that it's being renamed now.

The stadium is now undergoing a $270 million-dollar renovation projected to be completed by the 2019 football season.

The stadium is now in use by the Los Angeles Rams and the USC Trojans.
