Premier League play-off possibility for final Champions League place

Premier League play-off possibility for final Champions League place

As things now stand, Liverpool are in control of their own destiny because a win over 'Boro will secure them Champions League qualification.

Nearly every team in the league has nothing to play for now and Everton are no different.

Thus, a one-off game would have to be played to decide who enters into the Champions League group stages and who faces a qualifying match.

That being said, Arsenal are just one point behind Liverpool in fifth place, and will be looking to the already relegated Middlesbrough to perform miracles at Anfield on Sunday.

Though Ronald Koeman's men will not be keen to do Liverpool a favour, the Dutchman will still want the Toffees to pick up the maximum amount of points possible. A 4-1 defeat for Guardiola's side coupled with a 2-0 win for the Gunners would put both teams at parity and force a playoff.

The Gunners have their work cut out for them if they are to continue their Champions League qualification streak.

Arsenal kept alive their slim hope of making it to the top four positions of the Premier League 2017 season.

It means that very few clubs have nothing to play for. All three clubs are separated by three points, and there is a possibility of two clubs finishing on the same spot in the League.

The Daily Mail claim that the club are set to resume contract talks with the Chilean winger following the FA Cup final at the end of May, with the player insistent on the six-figure sum.

"But it is important because I think Liverpool's history shows they are fighting in the top of the Premier League and in Europe".

Jurgen Klopp says Bayern would not find things as easy as they do in the Bundesliga if they were a Premier League club. The third and final relegation berth was decided on Sunday.

Chelsea are the champions and Spurs' victory over Man United secured second spot for the Lilywhites, a result that also knocked the Old Trafford squad out of the race for the top four. Arsene Wegner's men go into this game three points behind Manchester City.

Jose Mourinho is already on record as stating he will be making significant changes for this game given they have a Europa League final to contest against Ajax three days later.
