Manchester attack: Police ,MI5 to jointly probe attacker Abedi's antecedents

Since the beginning of April, British security services have stopped three active plots: a man arrested in possession of three knives in London's Westminster in April, three women arrested on terrorism charges also in April, and four men arrested in connection with a terror plot in East London last week.

It was a message of defiance three days after Manchester-born Salman Abedi's attack on young fans attending a concert by U.S. pop star Ariana Grande.

"We mourn the lives of children and loved ones taken by this cowardly act", he added.

May said it was possible a wider group was linked to the bombing, prompting the deployment of troops a little more than two weeks before a June 8 national election.

"Last time I spoke to him, he sounded normal". There was nothing worrying at all until. Officials described it as the largest and deadliest attack in 12 years, since more than 50 people died in the London tube and bus bombings in July 2005.

He said his other son, Ismail, was arrested in England on Tuesday morning.

Ahmed bin Salem, the spokesman of a Libyan anti-terror force, says the father of Salman Abedi, Hashim, was detained yesterday.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Libya's RADA counterterrorism force said it had arrested and interrogated Abedi's 20-year-old brother, Hashim, on Tuesday.

RADA also said their father, Ramadan Abedi, was taken into custody in Tripoli on Wednesday; he has been questioned but not charged. British officials, however, have not commented on whether Abedi had links to IS or other extremist groups. Al-Libi was on the FBI's most-wanted terrorist list and died in US custody in 2015.

Police have named the bomber as Salman Abedi, 22, who was born in Manchester to parents of Libyan origin.

British ministers also voiced their anger to American officials after photographs apparently showing bloodstained fragments from the Manchester concert bomb were leaked to the USA press.

So far, five people have been arrested in the United Kingdom in connection with the bombing, while Abedi's father and brother were taken into custody in Libya. Abrini visited Manchester in 2015. Libyan authorities said that for roughly a month, they had been watching Hashim, who they say had been about to launch an attack of his own in Tripoli. The Briton blew himself up at a military base in Iraq in February.

"The alleged leaks coming out of government agencies are deeply troubling", Trump said in a statement.

His friend, also of Libyan descent, died after being stabbed by British youths in May past year, the source said on condition of anonymity. British authorities then had no option but to follow suit, although even then they waited two hours before naming Abedi.

She said the Americans had not compromised the Manchester investigation and that the Trump administration is "perfectly clear about the situation".

Under normal circumstances, he said, Abedi may have been able to travel to the United States because he was from Britain, a visa-waiver country, but he would have been subjected to a background check via the US government's Electronic System for Travel Authorization, or ESTA.

Mr Abedi confirmed that his son made regular trips to Libya to visit his family.
