Lahm excited to retire

The former Spain global will call time on a career which has seen him lift one Liga, three Bundesliga and two Champions League titles, with his first European Cup coming alongside Gerrard in 2005.

Before his final game against SC Freiburg on Sunday afternoon, the 35-year-old's former midfield partner sent a message, in which Gerrard revealed how devastated he was when Alonso departed for Real Madrid.

He will retire after making over 600 appearances for club and country, winning 21 major trophies without being shown a red card in his career. "I'm one for strategy, not the spectacular".

"I can continue with my leadership style, giving my best every day, in every training, until the end of the season". Besides, Anceloti's Bayern is on the fifth league title quest this season.

Bayern Munich won their fifth consecutive title in Bundesliga and their 27th in history. He is also a Champions League, a German Cup and a World cup victor for Bayern Munich and Germany.

Alonso: Many experiences, many people that made me feel welcome from the first moment.

Bayern Munich have finished a Bundesliga season without a defeat at home for the first time since the 2007-08 season.

Lahm's entire professional career has been spent with the Bavarian club - although he was loaned out to Stuttgart in 2003 - and he has accumulated a ridiculous amount of trophies.

Winning five consecutive league titles is no simple feat (though Juventus have now won six straight titles in Italy) and Bayern should be proud of this accomplishment.

He said: "For example, I name Thomas Muller with whom I have played Bayern 346 games".

"I love his professionalism and his quality".

"I want to thank both players, they have played a fantastic season in fantastic careers, but now we have to look forward and try to find good replacements".

After a decade and 113 appearances, Lahm retired from worldwide football following Germany's 2014 World Cup triumph.

These two magnificent individuals are one of the best representatives of a football game in the past 15 years. Then I'd say I'm satisfied.
