Israel rethinking United States security ties after Trump's intel blunder

During a ceremony in the presidential residence, Rivlin identified himself as a seventh-generation Jerusalemite and noted, "Next week, we will celebrate 50 years since Jerusalem was united, and the Jewish people were able to once again pray at the Western Wall".

McMaster only said that the matter was a "policy decision".

Days before his arrival, a diplomatic row between the two countries arose after an American official was quoted as questioning Israel's claim to one of Judaism's holy sites in Jerusalem.

But he made no mention of Trump divulging intelligence to Russian Federation that a U.S. administration official said had originally come from Israel.

A diplomatic blowup over the status of Jerusalem, followed by revelations Trump had shared highly classified Israeli intelligence with Russian Federation, has reinforced the president's image as dangerously unpredictable.

Israeli officials appear to be growing increasingly nervous over Trump's visit, when he is expected to make an attempt at relaunching long-stalled peace talks with the Palestinians.

"Obviously, I believe that the capital should be Jerusalem, and the embassy should be moved to Jerusalem, because if you look at all their government is in Jerusalem", Haley told CBN's chief political correspondent, David Brody on his show, "The Brody File". "So much of what goes on is in Jerusalem and I think we have to see that for what it is", she continued.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said Tuesday that the Western Wall is part of Israel, something other Trump administration officials would not unequivocally state the same day. On Monday night, ABC News reported the life of a spy placed by Israel inside ISIS was at risk, according to current and former US officials, after Trump reportedly disclosed classified information in a meeting with Russian officials last week.

Trump reportedly told Lavrov about a laptop bomb plot of ISIS, including the city in Syria where the information was collected.

"We had a very good meeting", Netanyahu said on Tuesday.

McMaster, speaking to reporters Tuesday, declined to confirm whether the wall is part of Israel.

"It will advance it by righting a historical wrong and by shattering the Palestinian fantasy that Jerusalem is not the capital of Israel", Netanyahu said.

The last communication on the issue was received from Vice President Mike Pence, when he said that the Trump administration was obligated to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, as promised during the election campaign.

Palestinians see settlements as a severe impediment to statehood.

Haley remarks came as Trump was preparing to leave the scandals engulfing his administration and embark Friday on his first foreign trip as president, a journey that also includes stops in Saudi Arabia, The Vatican - and a quick jaunt into the Israeli-occupied West Bank to meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Bethlehem.
