The alert was first issued by the California Highway Patrol shortly after 2 p.m. Friday for 1-year-old Makai Bangoura, who was abducted at 3 p.m. Thursday.

The San Francisco District Attorney's Office said the mother got new custodial status from the court and filed a police report.

Bangoura has been missing since May 12, and police say he was taken by 30-year-old Jason Lem. Police ask anyone who sees the pair or the auto to call 911.

The child was abducted on Thursday, according to an Amber Alert advisory issued by the California Highway Patrol that warned the father may have been contemplating suicide.
